Jacob Nix this week pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal trespassing following his October arrest for attempting to crawl through a doggy door of a home near the Padres’ spring training complex in Peoria, Ariz.

Nix received 18 months of probation as part of a plea agreement. The 24-year-old pitcher also agreed to participate in alcohol counseling, submit to random alcohol testing and pay just under $3,000 in restitution.

According to the arrest report, Nix “was too intoxicated” to explain why he attempted to enter a home through a doggy door shortly before 4 a.m. after a night out in Scottsdale with fellow Padres minor league pitcher Tom Cosgrove.

Nix, according to the report, acknowledged to officers he did not have any animals at his home, nor did he have a doggy door. Nix was kicked in the face by the homeowner, Tasered and arrested a short while after Cosgrove pulled him from the doggy door.

The arrest report said a portable breath test administered to Nix and Cosgrove registered for alcohol consumption. Cosgrove — who had a brace on his left arm as part of his Tommy John surgery recovery — also was arrested, but not charged.

Nix had been pitching for the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League at the time of his arrest. He missed all of 2019 after sustaining a UCL tear in spring training after posting a 7.02 ERA in nine starts in the majors in 2018.

The Padres designated Nix for assignment in November and outrighted him to Triple-A El Paso.

He did not receive an invitation to big league camp.
