You’ve heard of going out with a bang. Well, Rob Gronkowski is going out with a dent — or at least the New England Patriots’ sixth Lombardi Trophy is.
Seriously.
New England’s now-retired, Hall of Fame-bound tight end managed to create a baseball-sized dent in the treasure of Super Bowl LIII.
The Patriots’ official Twitter page posted a video of the ever-so-playful Woodland Hills graduate using the trophy for batting practice before the team’s April 9 on-field appearance at the Boston Red Sox home opener.

According to players who witnessed the foolishness, nobody thought Gronkowski actually would do it.
That is, until he changed from the swing stance to “bunt” a pitch from Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman.
The result was a dent in the trophy that the team might (or might not) fix in the future.
Executive vice president of media relations Stacey James told ESPN, “We’re going to keep the dent and tell the story.”
