The Pittsburgh Penguins activated rookie defenseman Jack. St. Ivany from the season-opening injured non-roster list Thursday.

St. Ivany was placed on that list once the regular season opened due to a suspected right foot injury he suffered during a preseason game Oct. 1.

A right-handed shot, St. Ivany recently completed a conditioning assignment with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. In five games with that club, St. Ivany scored five points (one goals, four assists) while largely manning the right side of the top pairing.

During the preseason, St. Ivany appeared in four games and recorded one assist on two shots.

St. Ivany, 26, is in the second year of a three-year contract with a salary cap hit of $750,000. He requires exposure to waivers to be eligible for any regular assignment to a minor league affiliate.

Following this transaction, the Penguins now have the league limit of 23 players on the active NHL roster.
