The Pittsburgh Penguins cut five players from their ongoing training camp and assigned them to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Forwards — Aidan McDonough, Mathieu De St. Phalle

Defensemen — Scooter Brickey, Chase Pietila

Goaltender — Taylor Gauthier

Of that quintet, only Pietila, a fourth-round draft pick (No. 111 overall) in 2024, is signed to an NHL contract, having signed a three-year entry-level contract in March.

The other four players are signed to AHL contracts.

Following these transactions, the Penguins still have 47 players in training camp, including eight injured players.

The NHL’s deadline to submit a season-opening roster compliant with the league’s 23-man limit is Monday.
