Penguins assign defenseman Jack St. Ivany to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned rookie defenseman Jack St. Ivany to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.
In a corresponding transaction, forward Cody Glass was activated from injured reserve. He has been sidelined for the past 11 games because of a concussion.
The right-handed St. Ivany has appeared in 19 games this season and has recorded a single assist while averaging 16:22 of ice time per contest. He has been a healthy scratch in five of the team’s past 12 games, including its most recent contest, a 6-2 home win against the Calgary Flames on Saturday.
St. Ivany is in the first year of a three-year, two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000, the league minimum.
With a limited amount of service time as a professional, St. Ivany was one of the few players on the NHL roster who did not require exposure to waivers for an assignment to a minor league affiliate.
Glass has not played since he was injured during a 5-1 road loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.
In 14 games this season, Glass, a right-handed shot, has recorded four assists while averaging 11:48 of ice time per contest.
Following an optional morning skate in Cranberry on Tuesday, coach Mike Sullivan labeled Glass as “day to day” in his recovery. Glass participated in the skate.
