The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned rookie forward Sam Poulin to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Wednesday.

This transaction comes one day after he was recalled from the minor league affiliate.

Poulin was a healthy scratch during Tuesday’s 4-3 home shootout loss to the Anaheim Ducks.

With the NHL club, Poulin has appeared in two contests this season and has no points while averaging 13:49 of ice time per contest.

At the AHL level, Poulin is Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s leading scorer this season with 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists) in 21 games.

Following this transaction, the Penguins have 22 active players on the NHL roster, one short of the league limit.
