The Pittsburgh Penguins unveiled a new third jersey Thursday as they took the ice for their home-opening contest against the New York Islanders.
Quietly teased by the team via social media for a handful of days, the jersey’s primary color is yellow and features the traditional skating penguin crest.
Per a release from the team, the new jersey are scheduled to be worn in 11 home games this season:
Oct. 9 vs. Islanders
Nov. 6 vs. Washington Capitals
Nov. 22 vs. Seattle Kraken
Dec. 11 vs. Montreal Canadiens
Jan. 1 vs. Detroit Red Wings
Jan. 8 vs. New Jersey Devils
Jan. 15 vs. Philadelphia Flyers
Jan. 29 vs. Chicago Blackhawks
Feb. 26 vs. New Jersey Devils
March 5 vs. Buffalo Sabres
April 5 vs. Florida Panthers
The Penguins have worn yellow throughout their history, including during the 1983-84 season when the club had a dreadful — and somewhat intentional — 16-58-6 record that allowed them to select franchise icon Mario Lemieux in the 1984 NHL Draft.
This will be the ninth different alternate or “third” jersey the club has worn since the 2015-16 season.
