Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust will be sidelined a minimum of two weeks due to an undisclosed injury.

The regular season begins with a road contest against the New York Rangers on Tuesday.

Rust’s status was announced by the team via social media on Thursday. On Wednesday, Rust had an early departure from a practice session in Cranberry.

Typically deployed on the right wing of the top line and on both special teams units, Rust is coming off a career-year in 2024-25 when he posted career highs in goals (31), assists (34) and points (65) while skating in 71 games.

As for the ongoing preseason, Rust has appeared in one game and has scored one goal.

This will be the second consecutive year Rust has been sidelined to open a regular season. He missed the first two games of the 2024-25 campaign due to an undisclosed injury.

Before Thursday’s announcement, the Penguins were already missing a handful of forwards due to injuries, including Kevin Hayes (suspected shoulder) and Rutger McGroarty (undisclosed). Goaltender Joel Blomqvist has also been sidelined due to an undisclosed malady.

Additionally, defenseman Jack St. Ivany was being evaluated for an undisclosed injury he sustained during a 5-3 road win against the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.
