In 64 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack last season, defenseman Mac Hollowell had 44 points (three goals, 41 assists).

The Pittsburgh Penguins signed defenseman Mac Hollowell to a one-year, two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000.

His agent, Dan Milstein, announced the transaction via social media.

Hollowell, 25, spent the 2023-24 season with the Hartford Wolf Pack, the American Hockey League affiliate of the New York Rangers. Appearing in 64 AHL contests, Hollowell (5-foot-9, 170 pounds) had 44 points (three goals, 41 assists) and was selected to the AHL’s All-Star Classic.

He just completed a one-year, two-way contract with an identical salary cap hit.

A right-handed shot, Hollowell has ties to Penguins president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas from their shared time with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Hollowell was a fourth-round pick (No. 118 overall) by the Maple Leafs in 2018 and spent parts of five seasons with that organization.

During the 2022-23 season, Hollowell’s only NHL experience came in the form of six games and two assists with the Maple Leafs.
