The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Phil Kemp to a two-year, two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000.

No announcement has been made by the team but Kemp was added to the NHL’s media website on Wednesday morning while Puckpedia had the financial terms of his new contract.

He just completed a two-year, two-way contract with an identical cap hit with the Edmonton Oilers.

Kemp, 26, has spent the vast majority of his five-year professional career with the Oilers who selected him in the seventh round (No. 208 overall) in the 2017 NHL Draft.

Last season, as a member of the Oilers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, the right-handed Kemp (6-foot-3, 202 pounds) skated in 56 games and scored 12 points (seven goals, five assists).

Kemp’s only NHL action in his career came in the form of one game with the Oilers during the 2023-24 season. During a 2-1 road overtime win against the Montreal Canadiens on Jan. 13, 2024, Kemp had no points while logging 2:03 of ice time on three shifts.

A native of Greenwich, Conn., Kemp played three seasons for Yale at the NCAA level.
