The Pittsburgh Penguins traded the N0. 12 overall selection in the ongoing NHL draft to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for the 22nd and 31 overall selections.

This selection (No. 12) was originally property of the New York Rangers and was transferred to the Penguins on Tuesday.

The Penguins acquired this selection through a trade with the Vancouver Canucks on Feb. 1 along with forward Danton Heinen, defenseman Vincent Desharnais and forward prospect Melvin Fernstrom in exchange for forward Drew O’Connor and defenseman Marcus Pettersson.

The Canucks gained the conditional draft pick from the Rangers earlier in the day in the J.T. Miller trade.

Per the conditions of the Canucks-Rangers trade, the draft pick had protection if it wound up being one of the top 13 selections in this year’s draft. The Rangers had the option of keeping the pick and transferring their first-round selection in 2026.

With the No. 11 selection, the Penguins drafted forward Benjamin Kindel from the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.

Their remaining selections in this draft:

First round – No. 22 overall (from the Colorado Avalanche via Flyers)

First round – No. 31 overall (from the Edmonton Oilers via Flyers)

Second round — No. 59 overall (from the Washington Capitals)

Third round — No. 73 overall

Third round — No. 84 overall (from the Minnesota Wild via the Philadelphia Flyers and Nashville Predators)

Third round — No. 85 overall (from the Ottawa Senators via the St. Louis Blues)

Fourth round — No. 105 overall

Fifth round — No. 130 overall (from the Chicago Blackhawks via Toronto Maple Leafs and Capitals)

Fifth round — No. 148 overall (from the Wild via the Rangers)

Sixth round — No. 169 overall

Seventh round — No. 201 overall

The only other time the Penguins had three selections in the first round of a draft was in 1984 when they selected future franchise icon Mario Lemieux No. 1 overall along with defenseman Doug Bodger (N0. 9) as well as forward Roger Belanger (No. 16).
