Drew Allar announced Monday morning that he’s expected to return for the 2025 season. And Monday night, Penn State secured a future target for Allar via the transfer portal.

Kyron Hudson, a wide receiver from Southern Cal, verbally committed to Penn State. He announced his decision on social media on Monday evening.

Hudson is the first transfer portal addition for James Franklin and his staff during the winter portal window.

Hudson’s commitment comes after visiting Penn State this past weekend. He was in Happy Valley with USC defensive tackle Bear Alexander, another portal target for the Nittany Lions.

Hudson is a solid addition for Penn State. He had 38 catches for 462 yards and four touchdowns last season with the Trojans. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound target had four receptions for 36 yards and a score for USC in Penn State’s 33-30 win in Los Angeles.

Hudson also had one of the plays of the season all the way back in Week One. His one-handed catch against LSU made the rounds on “SportsCenter” and showed what he’s capable of.

Ideally for Penn State, Hudson won’t be the only wide receiver brought in via the portal. The Nittany Lions are also expected to host FIU’s Eric Rivers and Ball State’s Justin Bowick. Rivers racked up 62 catches, 1,172 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. Rivers’ touchdowns and yards rank fourth and fifth in the FBS, respectively. Bowick, meanwhile, had 20 catches for 383 yards and three scores in just four games before redshirting.

Penn State will need to replace Mackey Award winner Tyler Warren (88 catches, 1,062 yards) next year. Allar has plenty of options at tight end between Luke Reynolds, Andrew Rappleyea and Khalil Dinkins. But the addition of Hudson — and perhaps more at receiver — will help diversify Allar’s options on the outside.
