Brett de Geus pitched for three teams last season.

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired right-handed pitcher Brett de Geus from the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon in exchange for cash considerations.

De Geus, 27, was designated for assignment by Toronto on Friday.

A veteran of 60 MLB games, de Geus owns a 3-4 career record and 7.48 ERA over 61 1/3 innings, with 48 walks and 29 strikeouts.

All of de Geus’ big-league appearances have been in relief.

Last year, he bounced around three MLB teams — the Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners and Miami Marlins — appearing in 13 total games with a 7.15 ERA.

Per Statcast, he relies on four primary pitches: a sinker, which he throws about 45% of the time, knuckle-curve (28%), cutter (21%) and splitter (5%).

De Geus made 39 appearances at the Triple-A level in 2024, 32 of which came with the Tacoma Rainiers.

His minor-league stats a year ago included an 0-4 record and 5.31 ERA in 39 innings.

De Geus’ most extensive MLB campaign came in 2021, when he split time between the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks, going 3-2 with a 7.56 ERA in 50 innings.

A native of Pleasanton, Calif., de Geus was originally a 33rd-round (No. 1,000 overall) draft pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017.
