Pitt extends volleyball coach Dan Fisher's contract through 2030
In his first high-profile transactional move since he was hired in October, Pitt athletic director Allen Greene on Wednesday extended women’s volleyball coach Dan Fisher’s contract through the 2030 season.
Fisher, who was named American Volleyball Coaches Association National Coach of the Year after leading Pitt to its fourth consecutive Final Four berth in 2024, has a contract in line with his football and men’s basketball colleagues at Pitt. Pat Narduzzi and Jeff Capel are also signed through 2030.
“Dan Fisher has built an elite volleyball program at the University of Pittsburgh in every respect,” Greene said in a statement. “His team, on and off the court, has captured the attention and hearts of our entire region, filling arenas and becoming must-see TV.
“While his coaching acumen is nationally renowned, I believe Dan’s greatest strength is the genuine relationships he forms with his student-athletes and the strong team culture he builds. That’s why Pitt is a destination for top volleyball talent from coast to coast.
“Personally speaking, I deeply appreciate the relationship Dan and I have formed in a relatively short period of time, and am excited to lock arms with him as he prepares his team for another championship run.”
Fisher’s Pitt teams have won six ACC championships, with five consecutive Regional Final appearances. The Panthers have won more games in the past seven seasons (202) than any Division I program, and Pitt is the nation’s only team to advance to the 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 Final Fours.
Pitt was 33-2 during the 2024 season, opening with a team-record 36-set winning streak and going on to defeat 12 Top 25 opponents. The Panthers led the country in hitting percentage (.332) and finished in the top 10 in opponent hitting percentage (third, .135), blocks per set (eighth, 2.81) and assists per set (10th, 13.18). Meanwhile, sophomore Olivia Babcock was named AVCA National Player of the Year, the first Pitt athlete so honored.
Babcock, Rachel Fairbanks and Torrey Stafford were named AVCA first-team All-Americans, the most of any program in the country. For the second year in a row, all seven Pitt starters received All-ACC honors and were represented on the AVCA East Coast All-Region Team.
“I’m grateful to be in a community and at a university that values and supports volleyball,” Fisher said in a statement. “I’m specifically grateful to Chancellor Joan Gabel and Allen Greene for the trust they put into our program. In these uncertain times in college athletics, it feels good to have a partner like Allen to chart these unknown waters with.
“I am appreciative of the impact he has made in a short amount of time and am excited to continue chasing championships with this team and staff.”
