Kiara Williams, a rising freshman forward for Pitt’s women’s basketball, will be sidelined for the entire 2024-25 season after she underwent successful lower leg surgery.

“We certainly wish Kiara well as she starts her recovery process,” coach Tory Verdi said in a statement. “She will work hard with our training staff over the coming months, and we expect her to make a full recovery. Despite this setback, she has a bright future ahead.”

The Palm Bay, Fla. native averaged 10.6 points and 7.4 rebounds during her senior season at Palm Bay High School.

She led Florida’s 4A District 8 in double-doubles her senior year with six, and was also second in blocks per game (0.8).

Her junior year, Williams averaged 13.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.4 blocks.

In addition to Williams, Pitt women’s basketball welcomed freshman guard Audrey Biggs and five transfers in Amiya Jenkins (Kentucky), Brooklynn Miles (Kentucky), Khadija Faye (Texas), Makayla Elmore (Clemson) and Mikayla Johnson (Colorado) to the 2024-25 roster.
