Cornerback Mason Alexander became the 18th prospect from the class of 2025 to verbally commit to Pitt on Wednesday, and he may be the most significant to date — for two reasons.

Alexander, who attends Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers, Ind., is the first rising senior on Pitt’s list with a four-star rating from Rivals.com.

Pitt secured Alexander’s commitment even while his home-state school, Purdue, was one of his top choices among 25 scholarship offers, including Florida, Michigan State, West Virginia, Louisville, Cincinnati and Miami.

There is no position coach Pat Narduzzi wants to stock with talent more than cornerback, where he needs players with the talent and desire to play press man coverage that translates so well to the NFL. Alexander intercepted three passes last season and returned two for touchdowns.

Alexander (5-foot-11, 170 pounds) is the second cornerback on Pitt’s list, joining Shawn Lee of Harrisburg. Safety Elijah Dotson of Detroit committed to Pitt last month. Narduzzi’s class is ranked 27th in the nation — sixth in the ACC — by Rivals, with players from nine states and the United Kingdom. Pitt has secured 12 of the 18 commitments this month.

Rivals.com ranks Alexander as the No. 5 overall prospect in Indiana and No. 34 cornerback in the nation.
