Pitt lands commitment from 6-foot-8 Australian forward
Pitt men’s basketball coach Jeff Capel received a verbal commitment from the other side of the world late Friday night — or Saturday morning, down under.
Henry Cody Lau, a 6-foot-8 small forward from Sydney, Australia, committed to the Panthers as part of the 2025 recruiting class.
He posted his commitment to X, saying “To Coach Capel and the entire Pitt coaching staff thank you for believing in me. I’m ready to give everything I have to the program.”
Proud to announce my commitment to the University of Pittsburgh!
Huge thanks to my agent Daniel Moldovan for his guidance, to the Sydney Kings for their role in my development and to my family and everyone who’s supported me throughout this journey.

The 18-year-old will be a freshman in the upcoming season. He has been playing for the National Basketball League’s Sydney Kings as developmental player and competed at the U20 national championships.
He is wrapping up his final year at Sydney Boys High School where he was named the Sydney Player of the Year after averaging nearly 30 points and 15 rebounds this past season.
“Henry has a great work ethic and has a knack for using his size and length to his advantage,” said Kings assistant coach Daniel Kickert when he was signed last summer. “I’m excited to see how those parts of his game continue to develop against the rest of our squad over the course of the year.
“Henry has that competitiveness and desire in spades, and we look forward to his future.”
Lau is the third high school player in Pitt’s 2025 recruiting class, and he will join four players from the transfer portal with the 2025-26 Panthers.
