Like most teams, Pitt only puts three linebackers on the field at a time. Also like many others in college football, Panthers linebackers coach Ryan Manalac makes sure to substitute regularly.

That’s why the past several weeks have been important to Pitt’s roster-building efforts. Three linebackers who will be high school seniors this year have announced their verbal commitments to enroll at Pitt in 2024.

The second announcement occurred Thursday when Jeremiah Marcelin of Miami Norland made his promise to coaches earlier this month public. He joins Aliquippa’s Cameron Lindsey as the first two linebackers in Pitt’s current recruiting class. Also, Davin Brewton of Red Bank Catholic (N.J.) is projected as a linebacker at Pitt.

Marcelin, (6-foot-2, 230 pounds) has several scholarship offers, including those from Louisville, Maryland, Florida State, Miami, West Virginia, Ole Miss, Syracuse, Tennessee and Texas A&M. He had narrowed his choices to Pitt, Louisville and Maryland.

He is a three-star prospect, the 86th overall recruit in Florida and 36th outside linebacker in the nation, according to Rivals.com. He could play middle linebacker in college, however.

At Miami Norland last season, he recorded 82 tackles, 27 for a loss, including 14 1/2 sacks, in 11 games. He also fits another criteria Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi likes in his recruits — he’s a two-year captain at Norland.

Marcelin, the fifth Pitt recruit from Florida, is the 20th this cycle who has made his commitment public, lifting the class to 12th in the country, tied with North Carolina for second in the ACC behind Clemson, according to Rivals.
