The Pittsburgh Riverhounds announced Monday they have signed veteran midfielder Angelo Kelly-Rosales to a one-year deal, pending the approval of both the United Soccer League and the U.S. Soccer Federation.
The contract also includes a team option for 2023.
Kelly-Rosales, 28, spent the past four seasons with the Charleston Battery.
He led the Battery in games played (29), minutes played (2,532), tackles (70) and interceptions (47) for the 2021 season.
Charleston and Pittsburgh are rival opponents in the USL’s Eastern Conference.
“Angelo is a versatile player who competes well, has a good feel for the game and has been a consistent performer for Charleston over the past few seasons. We are looking forward to working with Angelo in 2022,” Riverhounds coach Bob Lilley said.
Kelly-Rosales, a native of Honduras who was raised in Iowa, forged a standout career for NAIA William Penn University in his home state.
The foundation for his USL career came as a member of the Thunder Bay Chill (2015), Midland/Odessa Sockers (2016) and Mississippi Brilla (2017) in the Premier Development League.
Kelly-Rosales made the move to the USL Championship with the Battery for the 2018 season and made 90 total appearances for the team over four seasons.
Charleston made the playoffs in each of his first three seasons. The Battery qualified for the Eastern Conference semifinals in 2020.
The Riverhounds head into the 2022 season with a veteran midfield, as three of them — Kelly-Rosales, All-USL second teamer Kenardo Forbes, and Danny Griffin logged more than 2,500 minutes apiece last season.
The Riverhounds begin preseason camp next Monday.
