Schenley alumnus DJ Kennedy has had a pretty successful run at “The Basketball Tournament” over the past five years.

His Overseas Elite squad has won the ESPN-sponsored tournament where 64 teams compete in a single-elimination style bracket for the chance to win $2 million four times in its five years of existence. During those four years, Kennedy led the way. He earned MVP honors twice (2015, ‘18) and has been named to the All-Tournament team every year, including this year.

This year’s tournament ended earlier than the past four though. On Sunday, Overseas Elite suffered its first-ever TBT loss, falling to Carmen’s Crew, a team made up of Ohio State alumni, in the semifinals, 71-66.

After helping Schenley capture a PIAA championship in 2006-07, Kennedy took his talents to St. Johns. Over his four-year college career with the Red Storm, he averaged 11.7 points, 2.4 assists, and 6.1 rebounds. Since then, Kennedy has played for multiple teams overseas.

In 2017-18, he was the leading scorer and rebounder of the Basketball Champions League, averaging 19 points and 8.4 rebounds for the Turkish club Pinar Karsiyaka.
