Sidney Crosby records a pair of assists as Canada beats Sweden

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby recorded two assists as Canada beat Sweden, 5-3, on the final day of preliminary round play during the International Ice Hockey Federation’s World Championship tournament at Avicii Arena in Stockholm on Tuesday.

Opening the contest as Canada’s second-line center, Crosby was 2 for 8 (25.0%) on faceoffs while logging 17:25 of ice time on 24 shifts.

Canada advanced to the quarterfinal round and will face Denmark on Thursday, 2:20 p.m.


Utah Mammoth forward Logan Cooley, a native of West Mifflin, scored a goal for the United States in a 5-2 win against Czechia at the Jyske Bank Boxen arena in Herning, Denmark.

Starting the contest as the United States’ top-line center, Cooley had nine shots and was 8 for 17 on faceoffs (47.0%) while logging 19:09 of ice time on 20 shifts.

The United States will face Finland in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, 10:20 a.m.
