Shown while playing for the New England Patriots during a November game last season, interior offensive lineman Lecitus Smith was claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers added a veteran interior offensive lineman to their offseason roster, claiming Lecitus Smith off waivers from the New England Patriots on Tuesday.

Smith, who will be 27 when training camp opens, has appeared in 18 NFL games since he was a 2022 sixth-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals out of Virginia Tech. Smith officially has three career starts, but his only full games played as an offensive lineman came as a rookie right guard three years ago. Last season for New England, the 6-foot-3, 314-pound Smith lined up sparingly as a fullback and extra tight end.

The Steelers are Smith’s sixth team.

The Steelers have open spots available on their offensive line after allowing veteran starting guard James Daniels and veteran interior backup Nate Herbig leave during free agency.
