Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker Kwon Alexander was fined $43,709 by the NFL for a hard tackle he made during the first quarter of an Aug. 11 preseason game.

Alexander dropped Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Chase Edmonds for a 2-yard loss a moment after he received a pass from Baker Mayfield 13 minutes and 42 seconds into the game in Tampa.

Alexander, a nine-year NFL veteran, was assessed a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty on the play.

Ended with a penalty, but still, gotta love the hard hitting and closing speed by Kwon Alexander #Steelers pic.twitter.com/mSqbPNMrlv

According to the schedule of infractions and fines agreed to by the NFL and its players union, Alexander’s fine amount was selected to represent a second offense for “Impermissible Use of the Helmet/Launching.”

“It’s something I can’t control,” Alexander said about being penalized on the play when asked about it two days later at Saint Vincent . “I just move on to the next play. Do what I got to do and move on to the next play.”

While Alexander was playing for the San Francisco 49ers in 2019, he was fined $28,075 for a hit on Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston.

“I am gonna hit people,” Alexander said, when asked if he would change his game as a result of being penalized. “So I ain’t really worried about it. So I just get it put out of the way.”
