BALTIMORE — With his 51-yard field goal as time expired in the first half of Saturday’s 34-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell inched closer to setting the NFL record for field goals in a season.
It was the 39th field goal for Boswell, which moved him out of a tie for seventh-most in league history. Ravens kicker Justin Tucker twice made 38 field goals in a season, in 2013 and 2016. David Akers set the mark with 44 for the San Francisco 49ers in 2011.
Boswell moved into tie for fourth-most field goals in a season, joining Robbie Gould, Olindo Mare and Jeff Wilkins. Boswell is one shy of tying Daniel Carlson and Neil Rackers for second place, with 40.
Boswell already has the Steelers’ single-season record for field goals.
Scary moment
Baltimore running back Justice Hill appeared unconscious for several moments after landing on his head as the result of a tackle by Steelers safety Damontae Kazee during the second quarter.
Hill was at full speed down the left sideline when Kazee collided with him to knock him out of bounds for a 25-yard gain on a rush. Kazee and a few other players watched while on a knee as medical personnel attended to Hill, who eventually sat up and walked off the field.
The Ravens quickly ruled Hill out for the game and said it was because of a concussion.
Baltimore coach John Harbaugh did not have an expansive update on Hill after the game other than to imply it was doubtful Hill could play on a short week. The Ravens play at the Houston Texans on Wednesday.
