Terrell Edmunds playing for Steelers for 1st time in 2 years, Roman Wilson inactive vs. Colts
INDIANAPOLIS — Terrell Edmunds was back in uniform for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The veteran safety spent his first five seasons with the Steelers but played for three other teams before being re-signed earlier this month. Edmunds was a healthy scratch for the previous two games but was in uniform for Sunday’s game at the Indianapolis Colts.
He had two tackles playing a subpackage role on defense in the 27-24 loss.
Edmunds was summoned in part because Cory Trice went on injured reserve earlier this week and another reserve defensive back — Darius Rush — was a healthy inactive against the Colts.
Another player who made his Steelers debut was running back Aaron Shampklin. A Harvard alum who has bounced around the league and USFL the past 2 1/2 years, Shampklin was elevated from the practice squad and appeared in an NFL regular-season game for the first time Sunday. He had one carry for 5 yards.
No Roman
Also a healthy scratch for the Steelers was their recent third-round pick, receiver Roman Wilson. Wilson missed more than a month of practice time after suffering an ankle injury less than a week into training camp but was cleared medically before the Steelers’ Week 3 game. He did not play in that home meeting with the Los Angeles Chargers, and he was not in uniform in Indianapolis.
The Steelers had announced starting left guard Isaac Seumalo, outside linebacker Alex Highsmith, running back Jaylen Warren and reserve tight end MyCole Pruitt would not play Sunday. Seumalo missed his fourth consecutive game to open the season because of a pectoral injury.
Russell Wilson again served as the No. 3 “emergency” quarterback.
Joining Shampklin as a practice-squad elevation was defensive back Thomas Graham Jr.
Out for the Colts were three starters: cornerback Kenny Moore II (hip), defensive end Kwity Paye (quad) and center Ryan Kelly (neck). Moore and Paye were announced Friday as out.
Tanor Bortolini — a rookie fourth-round pick — made his NFL debut as the Colts’ starting center.
