The Pittsburgh Pirates announced Friday that Konnor Griffin, the consensus top prospect in baseball, is one of seven non-roster invitees who have been invited to major-league camp for spring training.
The 19-year-old Griffin, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound shortstop/center fielder who was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, was Baseball America’s minor league player of the year and won the Honus Wagner Award as the top player in the Pirates’ system.
It will be the second big-league camp for Griffin, who will be joined by another former first-round pick, second baseman Termarr Johnson, who will be attending for the third time in his pro career.
Also invited are catchers Omar Alfonzo and Shawn Ross, right-handed pitchers Noah Davis and Chris Devenski and infielder Duce Gourson. The Pirates previously announced the invitations to pitchers Beau Burrows, Joe La Sorsa, Oddanier Mosqueda and Noah Murdock and position players Dominic Fletcher, Ronny Simon and Davis Wendzel.
Griffin batted .333 with 23 doubles, 21 homers, 94 RBIs, 117 runs scored and a .942 OPS in 122 games across Low-A Bradenton, High-A Greensboro and Double-A Altoona in his first pro season. Griffin’s 65 stolen bases in his debut season were the most by any Pirates minor leaguer since 2007, and his 117 runs scored were the most by a Pittsburgh farmhand since 2011.
The 21-year-old Johnson, the No. 4 overall pick in 2022, batted .272 with 15 doubles, nine homers and 35 RBIs in 119 games for the Curve last season. Johnson is ranked the No. 9 second base prospect by MLB Pipeline.
Davis and Devenski are new to the Pirates.
Devenski was an American League All-Star for the Houston Astros when they won the World Series in 2017. He had a 2.16 ERA in 13 games (one start) with the New York Mets last season and also has played for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Angels and Tampa Bay Rays.
The 28-year-old Davis pitched 511⁄3 innings in 18 appearances (six starts) with the Colorado Rockies from 2022-24 and a combined 11 innings across nine outings with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Minnesota Twins last season. He was 4-0 with three saves and a 3.88 ERA in 35 Triple-A games last season.
The 22-year-old Alfonzo hit 18 doubles, 14 homers and had 56 RBIs in 116 games split between High-A Greensboro and Double-A Altoona last season.
Gourson, 23, batted a combined .275 with 21 doubles, 10 home runs and 38 RBIs with an .809 OPS in 95 games split between Greensboro and Altoona last season. He was named the organization’s Omar Moreno baserunner of the year after recording 31 stolen bases.
The 26-year-old Ross appeared in 68 games between Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis in 2025. He hit 37 home runs with Greensboro in 2023-24, and his 23 homers in 2024 were tied for the most among all Pirates minor league players.
