Frisman Jackson, the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receivers coach the past two seasons, will not have his contract renewed, according to a source.
The Steelers are searching for a replacement, which will be the fourth at the position since wide receiver coach Daryl Drake’s death during the 2019 training camp. Ray Sherman came out of retirement and spent that season as the interim wide receivers coach. Ike Hilliard held the job for the next two seasons and was replaced by Jackson in 2022.
Jackson no longer is listed on the Steelers’ media site as being part of the offensive staff. Other assistant coaches no longer listed are assistant quarterbacks coach David Corley and quality control coach Matt Tomsho.
The changes are the first since Arthur Smith was hired last week as offensive coordinator. Smith and Jackson worked together on the Tennessee Titans staff in 2017.
Corley wrapped up his second season as assistant quarterbacks coach under Mike Sullivan, who served as play caller on game days after Matt Canada was fired as offensive coordinator in November.
Tomsho had just finished his third season with the Steelers. Among his responsibilities were video analysis and scouting of opponents.
The Steelers did not have a 1,000-yard receiver in 2022, Jackson’s first season with the organization. Under Jackson’s watch in 2023, second-year receiver George Pickens caught 63 passes for 1,140 yards and five touchdowns. However, Pickens was criticized for not blocking on a play at the goal line at Indianapolis, and veteran Diontae Johnson also showed a lack of effort when he did not attempt to recover a fumble in a game at Cincinnati.
The Steelers also need to replace strength and conditioning coach Marcel Pastoor, who left the organization in January, and his assistant, Rodain Delus.
