Burrell’s Marching Band is holding its first Car and Motorcycle Show on Oct. 2 to raise money and to offer a community event with live student music.

About than 100 cars and motorcycles will be on display, said Michael Pagnotta, a music teacher and Burrell’s band director.

“It will be quite a show with some excellent cars and motorcycles to see,” he said.

“There are more than a few impressive motorcycles out there with a very passionate community behind them, and I can’t wait to see what comes to our show,” Pagnotta said.

Judges will award prizes for best-in-show.

Patrons can vie for raffle baskets stuffed with items and donations from local businesses.

The marching band decided on a car and motorcycle show as a way to get back into fundraising after the pandemic canceled some fundraising events and hampered others.

Several band member parents are avid car enthusiasts and car show organizers, Pagnotta said.

There are student car enthusiasts as well.

“Some study at the excellent Northern Westmoreland Career and Technology Center’s automotive program and are very excited to ‘geek out’ on cars for a day,” he said.

The money raised during the show will pay for the band to enter band competitions through the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Marching Band Association and a spring band trip.

“The students are very passionate about competing and getting better each year,” Pagnotta said. “It is a wonderful thing that we can offset that cost for the students through fundraising as an organization.”

The band also will use the proceeds to replace and improve their equipment, he added.
